Welcome

Welcome to the official website of Stephenie Young, author of the upcoming series of books featuring Jennifer Payne in the Ferox World. The Ferox are a group of people that are born with special abilities. Those abilities manifest at the onset of puberty and can create havoc during those important years of development. Ferox can live hundreds of years. The Ferox government system is called Omnibellum and is located on Justice Island in the Pacific ocean.

Jennifer Payne, our heroine, is an Empath. Not only does she have to struggle through her own life but she has to endure the struggles of others through her ability.

Book Four is Complete

During National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), I spent a few days in a condo in Oahu, Hawaii. There I planned and began writing Book 4. (Spoiler alert – In Book 4, Jen will spend a little time in Honolulu, and on Justice Island.) After spending some time reviewing and editing the first three books, I’ve completed my final tweaks and passes on Book Four. The next project I will tackle is to update all of the websites for the book series. They’re a few years old, and need an updated...

You’ve completed your novel and then did your own editing. Before you send your novel to agents or publishers, you need feedback. Lots of feedback. You need critique partners. You’ve done it! You completed your novel and now you’re ready to publish it. But wait! Before you start sending manuscripts to publishers or contacting agents, you need to revise and edit your novel. You might be anxious to move things along, but you shouldn’t send your book proposal until it’s polished and complete. AUTHOR NOTE: I pay the bills as a Senior Technical Writer at a Fortune 500 Top 20 Tech company. There, I regularly pass work to an editor before I publish it. I’ve been there for two years, and...

Book Three Update

Book Three History I wrote Book Three during NaNoWriMo 2013. I used a method called “pantsing”. NaNo-ers align with one of two writing methods: Planning – If you’re a planner, you create a plot outline for your novel before November 1. Then, during NaNoWriMo, you write your novel based on your outline. You use the outline to keep your novel moving. Pantsing – If you’re a pantser, you write by the seat of your pants, with no planning. I’m a planner by nature, but in 2013, I decided to try...

Novel Writing on an iPad

NaNoWriMo is about to begin and I will be spending all of my spare time in the month of November writing my third novel. I plan to attend a slew of NaNoWriMo Local Events, including the write-ins. That means mobile writing. I have a work laptop, but it’s generally a bad idea to do personal work on your corporate laptop. That leaves my iPad or my smartphone. I chose to use my iPad and played with some apps and accessories to figure out the best way to do it. Here’s how you can use your iPad to write your NaNoWriMo novel. Goals The...

Using a Pen Name

Posted by on Oct 11, 2012 in Writing | Comments Off on Using a Pen Name

If you’re preparing to publish (or just beginning to write) you may consider using a pen name. I have a couple of friends that were getting married. She was constantly annoyed that her maiden name was mispronounced and his last name was Thigpen. Yes, Thigpen rhymes with pigpen. When they married they decided that they were both changing their name to Beck. Whether you hate your name or just want to use a catchier name, you may choose to use a pseudonym. Choosing a Pen Name To me, this was one of the hardest steps. How do you figure out...

Dreams to Life

Dreams to Life

I had a dream last night. It was of a race in another galaxy panicking because their sun was dying. They looked like us. They were human. They were scared. They needed help. Their entire planet needed to be moved before it was erased from existence. The dream had absolutely nothing to do with my Ferox Series books and plots, but I have always planned on writing other series down the road. So I took a little break from my Ferox writing to do some thinking and plotting. The result of that is Terra: The inhabitants of Terra were from Earth....
